Looking to port to a new tablet device.

Added by Valene Reynolds about 11 years ago

What is needed here to get an FOSS port going on the Amazon Kindle fire HDX? Right now it has a locked down bootloader. We have source code for this device on the github along with a working root on this tablet. I have built cyanogenmod on the nook color in the past from the github. How can I or anyone coming in looking to go forward with this device to open source android? The bootloader keys are signed from Amazon.

I have a floating point in /root/ right now on this device. I need some guidence on going forward with this device to open it up. I have built android in the past with tools picked up along with using Eclipse, using diff tools and breakpoints in debugging. Do we need to find a workaround like an exploit or is it possible to get a working port on this device with android? Thanks.

Edit:

Ok Paul K. Do you see that drama over in XDA? They do not want development on this device. The mods over there are hiding links out now to the locked down bootloader. I will hand this development over to your team. Links out are on KDE look in my group thread. They will not work with anyone at this point. My skills are lacking to a full development on the Amazon kindle Fire HDX. They keep saying the bootloader is cracked then other developers come in trying to retract statements. Hope you luck with this device. The links out are up on 4 shared. They keep saying let it stay locked down with Amazon overseeing that one device, but I just do not like it. Yeah its a social drama fest over there. I am not cut out for it.

I'm not aware of the details about this device. If the bootloader checks the kernel's signature, it's not interesting for Replicant. If there is no work done by CyanogenMod or Omni or others, I doubt it'll be interesting for Replicant.

Can you bring further information (SoC, modem isolation, kernel signed, etc)? I'm not going to start a port from scratch anyway and there are easier-to-support and presumably better devices out there.

I'm not sure what you're expecting from the Replicant project here. The current state that you describe doesn't match the requirements to start a Replicant port for the device.
