What is *the* recommended phone?
Added by David Merk about 10 years ago
Wikipedia has a great color coded chart on supported devices http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replicant_%28operating_system%29#Supported_devices
However it's not clear as a casual observer which setup has the highest software compatibility and security, or the best ratio of the 2.
I'm particularly interested in modem/SoC backdoors and the charts don't seem to specify that. Or do you just not develop for shady platforms at all?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello David,
I have just started looking around at replicant like you. So I am sorry, my answer may not be very accurate.

Reading some other posts this issue seems to be a show stopper for the replicant project. (Which would mean your aim is included by default at some point.)
Please have a look to this thread for example:

Having the same question in mind I (currently) focus on the Galaxy S3 as the newest well supported phone.
The S2 could be a better choice in respect of compatibility, I guess, because it is more popular and just somehow aged. But at least S3 seems to have a similar SoC (taking the name and version number into account :).
Do you have any new aspects/ideas?
Regards,
doak

Having said this the LTE version (2GB of RAM and therefore my favorite) seems not to be a good choice:

Although this information is already one year old I think it still holds ... ;(
