To add support for other distributions we need to:

Either upstream grub-crypt patches or maintain them in the other distribution we want to add support for
Send a patch to the current version of the vm creation script. An old version of the script has been added to this page. There is no public git for it at the FSF because they cannot share its history as they probably have passwords or things like that inside.
